The First Thing to Drink in the Morning (VIDEO)

When I start my day with this drink, I feel like Beyonce for the rest of the day. The reason being: THIS IS THE PERFECT THING TO DRINK WHEN YOU FIRST WAKE UP!  It's not quite as satisfying as a maple cinnamon latte, but the more I drink it the more I can't wait to wake up and drink it again.

Here's why:

>> Drinking it out of a mason jar with a metal straw - zero waste as fuck.

>> Chia Seed (2 tablespoons) - chia seeds are like godsends for many reasons.  I had always worked with them since I studied in culinary school, but I really became acquainted with them when I working and traveling was in China.  Mama was stuffing her body with all of the noodles, tofu, and vegetables I couldn't pronounce.  This combined with the fact that my body was physically scared of pooping in a squatty potty (idk why) and the constant travel was a recipe for constipation.  In Shanghai I found a health food store that sold big ass bags of chia seeds and I scooped them up real quick.  Every day I would put a few tablespoons of chia seeds into my water with a little lemon or herbs or whatever else I could find to flavor it, shake it up, let it sit and get gelatinous and then I would drink it, sometimes several times in a day.  My digestion improved tenfold and I was pooping all over China for the rest of the trip (lol). The carbs in chia seeds come from fiber that your body can't digest so this helps things move right along in your gut.  They also are little nutrient powerhouses and are even 14% protein.  They are know to be a sustaining source of energy and because of their high fiber content they are ideal for feeling full and aiding in weight loss.  So yeah, I pretty much have a love affair for chia and love to start the day with these precious little babies.

>> Apple Cider Vinegar . (1 tablespoon) - most people who are even a little bit familiar with healthy shit know that ACV is a dime-piece ingredient.  But if you are living under a healthy shit rock, then I will clue you in.  Apple Cider Vinegar is essentially apples, sugar, and yeast - fermented (which reduces the sugar content) into a vinegar.  I'm a big fan of adding fermented foods into the diet wherever you can and starting the day off with something like ACV is more than ideal.  Here's some fast facts about ACV:  it can kill many harmful bacterias, it lowers blood sugar levels, it has been known to aid in weight-loss and burning belly fat, it lowers cholesterol, improves heart health, and it can even boost your energy (so it can replace your morning caffeine), and improve your skin.  These are just some of the benefits.  If you aren't drinking a little ACV every single day then you are SLEEPING! *Note - be sure to buy pure, quality apple cider vinegar that contains the MOTHER (this is the thing that ferments the vinegar).  Braggs is a very widely sold and trustworthy brand.

>> Squeeze of Stevia - pure stevia in a liquid form can be an excellent replacement for sugar.  If sugar isn't like cocaine to you, you could use a different sweetener like agave or maple syrup.  Some people say they don't like the taste of stevia, but I think if you only use a little and combine it with other flavors it gets the job done in making things tasty.

>> Dash of Cinnamon - If you know me, then you know that I believe cinnamon is such an underrated flavor for how widely used it is.  I absolutely LOVE the taste of cinnamon.  Adding it to this drink really brings out the apple flavor of the ACV.  High quality, pure cinnamon (not the cheap cassia stuff or the cheap cinnamon that is diluted with flour) is rich in antioxidants and has a ton of health benefits such as anti-inflammatory properties, the ability to lower risk of heart disease and to lower blood pressure, and it is known to be anti-diabetic!  Plus it makes this drink smell like a goddamn bakery.

>> Squeeze of Lemon - Bitches love lemon water in the morning.  Plus, in this drink it makes it taste pretty good by cutting the tanginess of the ACV with a bit of sweet tartness. Lemon juice helps with digestion & bowel movements, is a rich source of vitamin C which helps with immunity, it aids in alkalinizing the pH levels of the body, it is detoxifying, and it is greatly detoxifying.  As you can see, there's a reason why bitches love lemon water in the morning. It's best to drink lemon water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach so your body can really utilize it, which is why I've added it to this drink!

>> Filtered Water - someday I will do a post about the importance of quality water, but for now just believe me when I say that high-quality, pure water is SO FREAKING IMPORTANT!! DO YOU HEAR ME?!?! SOOOOO IMPORRRRTANT. Step away from the tap.  Go get yourself a Alexapure filter which gets out a lot of the crap we should NEVER be drinking in our water.  Don't you dare disgrace my beautiful morning drink with shitty, unfiltered water.   Yeeeooo don't get mama started on the water talk, I could talk your head off about it (blog post coming someday)....

So there you have it, my friend.  The perfect morning drink.  This sort of happened by accident for me, started off with wanting to drink 32oz of water in the morning.  Then I added in the chia seeds after my experience in China.  Then I added in the ACV because I had been doing research on the benefits of it.  Then I added the lemon because, as we know, bitches love lemon water in the morning.  Then I added in the stevia because it was too sour and I needed a bit of sweetness without using real sugar. Then finally, I added the cinnamon because I love it and thought it would taste nice and it does! Speaking on taste, when I posted this video on my instagram I was asked if it tastes good - I think the answer is yes! I love it actually.  And I really love the texture of the chia seeds, especially since they make me feel so full as well . You may not like the taste, it may be a taste you have to learn to like - maybe you even need to tweak the recipe to work for you.  But I would highly encourage you to start your day with a drink like this!! It is almost a ritualistic experience for me now to pull out my mason jar in the morning and combine all of these powerful whole foods to nourish my body with first thing.  It really sets a a precedent for my day, and it gets that feelin-like-beyonce feelin-myself-because-I-took-care-of-myself vibe going!
